Vape Liquid Guide

The dizzying array of vape liquids now at your disposal certainly looks inviting. There’s something to suit every vaping palate and all devices. Whether you need a coffee fix or you crave the taste of your favourite tobacco, you will be able to find what you are looking for. Experienced vapers can quickly home in on what they need. Things are a little different for beginners or for those who have remained loyal to their original vape brand but now fancy a change.

We would like to help you navigate your way through the considerable amount of vaping terminology that you will encounter when choosing your juice. It’s important that you find the vape liquid that keeps your taste buds happy and satisfies your nicotine cravings. You must also select vape juice which is suitable for your equipment.

Here’s everything you need to know about vape liquid. We’ve also thrown in a few interesting facts that you don’t really need to know, but hey! Vapester is the vape shop that keeps you appraised of the facts, even if they are utterly pointless!

How to choose the right vape liquid base

When you peruse e cig liquid product listings or packaging, it is crucial to ascertain the base liquid ratio of each juice. This sounds a little scientific but don’t be intimidated because base liquids are easy to understand. All you need to know is that eliquids feature flavourings and a base liquid to carry the those flavourings. The base is heated in your electronic cigarette to create the vapour that you inhale.

Base liquids are created from a mixture of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG). The proportion or ratio of each varies from one vape juice to another. That ratio determines the strength of flavour, the nature of the throat hit and the amount of vapour that is produced. It is expressed as a percentage. For instance, 50PG/50VG means that the e liquid is 50% propylene glycol and 50% vegetable glycerine.

Propylene glycol is a synthetic organic compound which is colourless, odourless and flavourless. It is considered safe to inhale and is used in Asthma inhalers. High levels of PG can give you a dry throat. However, PG gives you an intense throat hit when you inhale and it carries flavour well. VG delivers a smoother throat hit and bigger vapour but does not carry flavour as efficiently as PG. It possesses a slightly sweet taste and is thicker than PG. For this reason, it can clog the coils of a vape cigarette if they boasts a high resistance.

E liquids with a VG content of greater than 50% are only appropriate for sub ohm equipment. This means electronic cigarettes and/or vape tanks with coils that have a resistance of less than 1 ohm.  If you have chosen an entry level starter kit, vape pen or a pod system, it is likely that the coil resistance will be higher than 1 ohm and that you should choose vape juice which is at least 50PG.

How to choose your nicotine strength

Most vape juices also feature nicotine. After all, that’s why so many smokers have turned to vaping in order to quit. As the majority of flavours are available in more than one nicotine strength, you can choose the concentration which best suits your needs.

If you are attempting to quit smoking and were a heavy smoker, you might find it helpful to start with the highest nicotine strength. Under EU regulations, the highest strength permitted is 20mg per millilitre (ml) of eliquid. You will probably be able to satisfy your cravings with a lower nicotine strength if you only smoked a few cigs each day.

You should also be aware that the device you are using will dictate the nicotine strength that you need. Coils with a high resistance will heat the vape juice slowly and so will deliver less vapour. On the other hand, coils with a lower resistance heat quickly and get hotter, creating more vapour. Those voluminous clouds ensure that you absorb a greater amount of nicotine. If you are using a sub ohm device or are thinking of moving on to sub ohm vaping, you will require a lower nicotine strength.

You may experience unpleasant side effects if your nicotine strength is too high. These include headaches, dizziness, mild nausea, coughing and gagging. If you experience any of these issues, choose a lower nicotine strength, fit coils with a higher resistance or vape less during the day.

Nicotine strength and vaping technique

Did you know that there are two different vaping techniques? If you didn’t, then we have some more vaping vernacular for you to get to grips with. Most people use a traditional inhale which is known as mouth to lung (MTL). Here, you draw the vapour from your e-cig into your mouth, then inhale it back into your lungs. Alternatively, you could engage in direct to lung vaping (DL) where you bypass the mouth.

An MTL draw is forgiving and so enables you to choose any available nicotine strength. A DL vape produces more vapour and delivers a greater amount of nicotine with each draw. A higher strength vape juice could therefore cause you to feel uncomfortable.

All about salt nicotine

Did we say that eliquids were simple? Perhaps they are not so simple after all. The vaping landscape has changed dramatically in recent years with new innovations arriving one after the other. You definitely benefit from amazing choice these days but with that breadth of choice comes complexity.

One of the newest kids on the vaping block is salt nicotine, also known as nic salts, nicotine salt or just salt. There is potential for confusion here because there is no salt involved in salt eliquid, just in case you were wondering.

Conventional vape juices feature freebase nicotine, the form used in replacement therapies. Unfortunately, freebase nicotine can irritate your throat. It isn’t readily absorbed by the body either and its impact can fade pretty quickly. You can increase your satisfaction by vaping at higher temperatures but complicated ecigs and powerful mods aren’t for everyone.

Nic salts are identical to the nicotine which naturally occurs in tobacco leaves. However, in their natural state, nic salts aren’t readily absorbed. Some very clever scientists soon discovered that salt nicotine can be modified by adding benzoic acid. The result was smoother throat hits, longer-lasting effects and less irritation. If you want to vape high nicotine concentrations, salt nicotine is the way forward. You will find a huge variety of salt e liquids in our vape shop online. Just remember that nicotine is an addictive substance in any form and so if you have never been a smoker, don’t go for nic salt eliquid, choose nicotine-free juice instead.

Hybrid e cig liquid

At the risk of boggling your mind, we would also like to mention hybrid eliquids. After all, hybrids in general are all the rage. Just look at dogs! Poodles, labradors and spaniels have been replaced by oodles of doodles. We frankly doubt that vape liquid will go the same way, but the RIOT Squad range already includes flavours which boast both freebase and salt nicotine.

Short fill e liquids

It won’t have escaped your notice that most vape liquids are supplied in 10ml bottles. This rather infuriating situation is the result of the European Tobacco Directive. That pesky piece of legislation encompassed vaping, even though no tobacco is involved. E liquids containing nicotine must be supplied in bottles with a maximum capacity of 10ml. This is extremely inconvenient for everyone and it is hard to imagine what the EU committee hoped to achieve, other than more plastic waste polluting the environment.

Happily, vape juice manufacturers are a resourceful bunch. One by one they have been circumventing the pointless regulations by supplying juice in larger bottles but without the nicotine. Those bottles are called short fills because they are not filled to the top. This leaves you room to add your nicotine shot. For every problem, there is a solution. Sadly, short fills tend to be confined to high VG flavours for sub ohm vaping.

Vape juice flavour

Now that we have explored all of the technicalities, at least we think we have, it’s time to focus on the exciting bit – e-juice flavour! It would be possible to write a reasonably lengthy book on this subject, given the incredible number of flavours that are now available. Forgive us for merely summarising your options here. You will find more information on our Flavours page.

If you are quitting smoking, it will probably be tobacco e liquids which initially grab your attention. This simple flavour profile has been treated to numerous makeovers and so you can now enjoy blends featuring such delights as caramel, chocolate and nuts. Check out Gold Rush by Juice Suaz for those nutty notes or Chilled Tobacco by Cosmic Fog if you fancy a minty chocolate delight.

Talking of minty, menthol flavours remain incredibly popular and provide a refreshing vaping experience. Often referred to a sub-zero, chilly or icy, these vapes are incredibly vibrant but the menthol hits vary from subtle to rather intense. We offer well over 200 menthol flavours and couldn’t possibly mention them all here. Try the legendary Heisenberg by Vampire Vape for an understated chilly finish or Menthol Special Blend by Vapouriz if you like mint with your mint. Then there’s the iconic Red Astaire by T-Juice which brings eucalyptus into the mix. We should also point out that all Nasty Juice flavours are completed by mild minty notes.

Fruit flavours are firm favourites with many vapers and we are pleased to bring you over 500 different blends. There isn’t a fruit on the planet that hasn’t been honoured in an eliquid and some of the recipes are out of this world. From blueberries to bananas and from strawberry kiwi to tropical mangos, you can indulge your palate with fresh fruity juices boasting both simple and complex profiles. Menthol, aniseed, eucalyptus and ice cream are all in the mix with fruity cocktails, ensuring that vape juice flavor never has to be dull.

In the unlikely event that you run out of fruits eliquid, tobacco blends and menthol flavours, you could turn your attention to desserts, candy treats, milkshakes and much more. From Blackberry Crumble by Dinner Lady to Double Drips’ impressive Twisted Ice Cream, you have a veritable feast awaiting you.

E Liquid names

We love a great moniker at Vapester. While many flavour names leave nothing to the imagination, others will get you thinking and will always raise a smile. It’s fun investigating what the likes of Pinkman and Head Bangin Boogie actually taste like and our product listings will always enlighten you.

Beard Vape have dispensed with names altogether. The eliquids are simply numbered while many collections including Riot Squad and Ruthless boast exciting themes and graphics. It’s the flavour that counts, of course, but there’s something incredibly appealing about a clever or amusing name. At least you will be able to remember what to order next time!

Vape juice brands

We have worked hard to ensure that our UK vape shop features all of the planet’s leading eliquid brands. You will discover the collections which best suit your taste, equipment and budget and there are plenty to choose from. Juice, we bring you more than 100 amazing eliquid brands.

Eliquid pods

It would be rude of us not to mention the success of the e liquid pod. Designed to provide user-friendly and convenient vaping solutions, pod systems have hit the spot with many vapers. These affordable devices feature liquid pods incorporating atomizers which simply click onto the pod mod (battery). You can invest in refillable pods such as those offered by Aspire AVP or choose pre-filled disposable vape pods including those from My Blu and Element. You discard these when you have exhausted the juice and install a replacement.

Eliquids to complement your budget

Vaping doesn’t have to cost the earth and is certainly more affordable than smoking, regardless of the equipment and eliquids that you choose. If budget is an issue, invest in an inexpensive vape pen or starter kit and top up with flavours from 88 Vape which offer outstanding value.
